TECA DC News Release – January 29, 2018

  1. Amendments to TECA DC Bylaws:
    • Article I: Name: The name of the Community Association has been changed to Tigray Community Association in the Washington DC Metropolitan Area (TCA-DC). The following names were presented for voting:
      1. Tigrean-Ethiopian Community Association in the Washington DC Metropolitan area (TECADC). – currently in our Bylaw.
      2. Tigrean-Ethiopian Community Association in the Washington DC Metropolitan area (TECADC), also known as Tigray Community DC.
      3. Tigray Community Association in the Washington DC Metropolitan area (TCADC).
    • The Bylaw is amended, with the Name changed to:  Tigray Community Association in the Washington DC Metropolitan area (TCA-DC).   

    • The amended Bylaw will be submitted to the Government of the District OF Columbia and the IRS. 

    • The Effective date of the name change will be the date specified on the New Certificate of Incorporation that be obtained from the Government of the District of Columbia after the amended Bylaw is submitted to the Government of the District of Columbia

    • Summary of Name Changes:
      • Tigrean Community Association in North America (TCA), Certificate of Incorporation received from the Government of the District of Columbia on Jan 05, 2006.  This was changed by the General Assembly on Nov 29, 2015 to the following (2).

        • Tigrean-Ethiopian Community Association in the Washington DC Metropolitan Area (TECA DC), Certificate of Incorporation received from the Government of the District of Columbia on Dec 29, 2015. This was changed by the General Assembly on Jan 28, 2018 to the following (3).

        • NEW NAME:  Tigray Community Association Washington DC Metropolitan Area (TCA-DC).   

      • This was adopted by the General Assembly on Jan 28, 2018.
  2. Amendment to Article VIII: Quorum
    1. Current: Article 8.6: Fifty percent plus one member present at any properly announced meeting shall constitute a quorum.

    2. Amended to: Article 8.6: Twenty-five percent plus one member present at any properly announced meeting shall constitute a quorum.

  3. Election of New Board members
    • Election of New Board members for the Term January 2018-December 2020 was conducted democratically according to our Bylaw during the General Assembly on Jan 28, 2018. The Nominating Committee elected during our General assembly meeting on Oct 01, 2017, which consisted of Mr. Kassa Hailemariam, Mr. Gebreyesus Engida, and Mrs. Elizabeth Gebregiorgis presented candidates for Board of Directors for the Term January 2018-December 2020. The result of the election is presented in the following Table:

  4. Election of New Audit Committee members

    • The election of new Audit Committee was postponed. The Nominating Committee will be working on electing and interviewing potential candidates with professional ability to fill the committee vacancies. The New Board of Directors will decide when to conduct the election.

  5. Recognition of community Members and/or organizations
    • TECA DC is grateful to the following individuals and organizations for their great contribution, and best performance in support of Our Community.

    • We know a lot of members have contributed a lot to the community, but we could not include everyone. We thank all and ask for their usual commitment and continued support.
    • The Out-going Board of Directors has laid a solid foundation for the Community Association. We have made significant financial contributions, paid great sacrifices in terms of time and energy, and have served the community with great determination.
    • The Out-going Board of Directors thank you all community members for the great opportunity and trust we enjoyed during our Term Jan 2016-Dec 2017.
